About Aubrey

Aubrey Leatherwood loves language and the way it can be used to communicate the beauty of physical sensation. She adores the body and the way it interacts with well... other bodies. She is also fascinated by the mind and its power. As a result her characters are always intensely physical but intensely cerebral beings as well. Frequently, they possess an awkwardness or nuance that endears them to the reader.

Aubrey has been a sci-fi, fantasy, and horror fan since she learned to read, so she frequently enjoys adding hints of the paranormal and metaphysical into her work. She also enjoys converting world mythology into contemporary stories.

Writing since she could hold a pen, Aubrey is prolific with her work and typically has about six or seven stories or novels going at once.

Aubrey lives in Florida where she works, spends time with family and friends, watches all things sports related, and writes.

When Shelley and Ray met, it wasn't fireworks, it was an atom bomb. Their intense and immediate attraction to each other destroyed the carefully constructed lives both A- personalities had built and neither were prepared for the consequences.

Fastforward two years, the independent and hard-shelled, Shelley has tried to forget Raymond. But when tragedy strikes, there's no one left, no one at all she can turn to... She calls him, but old insecurities set in, and she falls into old habits. She can't tell him she needs him.

Exasperated that Shelley would contact him after so long with the exact same hang-ups--never expressing how she felt for him, pretending like the feelings didn't run deep--Ray tries to leave it alone, but he can't. He has to find out why she's made contact out of the blue, only to say
nothing

When he sees her again all bets are off. Ray has to have her, but for once, she needs him more than he needs her. For once, she's going to have to ask for what she wants.

 Imperfection

Lyrical Press, Inc

My friend Ann tells me I like it too much. My admin thinks its awe-inspiring. My sister-in-law Organza thinks it is unnatural. My best friend Deborah wont even discuss it. But I ask: What's wrong with desperately wanting your own husband? That sex with him becomes a goal each time we are apart? That he is my favorite smell and color and food? It is not all-consuming all the time. Instead, it is something that comes to me like a new idea, unexpected, quick, and completely inescapable. I want to worship at his temple. Then I want lightning to strike it."

And so begins my novel Imperfection coming to Lyrical Press in March 2009. This story is close to my heart and so are the characters which have becoming living, breathing, thinking, loving people in my life. A couple prepares to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, and we are invited. We get to see their love for each other, how it develops, how it helps them whether rough storms, how it determines the way they raise their daughter, the way it keeps them strong even during the times they don't like each other very much.

Imperfection is told from the perspective of Candy Russell, a design editor, who has a loving husband, and a twenty-three year old daughter. Candy is frank and conversational in her recounting of the life and love that has lead her to present day. She's also confident, funny, sometimes prickly, and possesses a hot-air-balloon-sized libido. She will invite you into her home, into her bedroom, into the lives of her family and friends, and even introduce you to her somewhat enigmatic and brooding daughter. She will also tell you, without qualm or apology, why she loves her husband.

The story is characterized as erotica, and that's OK. I don't know if I've written more erotic scenes than can be found in this book. I also don't think the book would be as intimate without them, but there is more, so much more if offers beyond sex. It's about love and all of the ways it manifests itself.
