What’s Up with Aub? June 28, 2009

Here’s Aubrey, checking in after a very long respite. What have I been up to? Well working mainly. What have I been doing for fun? Well nothing mainly :) no time. However the Fourth of July holiday is fast approaching and I have every intention of spending it chillaxing (kinda hate that word, but alas I just used it) with friends and family. Dancing will be done. Drinks will be had. I will probably get frustrated with Infamous because as much as I love the game, it’s a shooter at its heart and yah know how I feel about shooters.

As far as writing news goes, I am slow and steady with my edits for Dime coming to you in November from Phaze Books. I really find this story enchanting, and not just because I wrote it. I am also working on my latest inspiration which I am loosely titling “The Blonde Homicide.” It’s not for the faint of heart.

May 3, 2009

Hello Darlin’. Nice to see you. It’s been a long time… :)

News… I have some! Imperfection has been reviewed by Delane at Coffee Time Romance and it has received a whopping 5 Cups. Yay Yay Yay! I’m so excited about the review! Would you like to read it? Well here’s the link. In the interest of being fair, Romantic Times gave it a two. It’s funny ‘cause the complaint from Romantic Times was exactly the opposite.  RT says you may not care about the characters CTR says you’ll fall in love with them. I’m sticking with Coffee Time because I truly, truly love the characters in this novel.

Last week, I was interviewed by Urban Reviews. Read it here. They also reviewed The People You Know; The Sex They Have. It’s a favorable review, though I think they wanted to see more sex… Hm. I can live with that! :)

I’m joining an anthology! Yay! I can’t divulge the subject yet, but if you pop over to the Fiction Page you can see a little bit about the story: If You Asked.

Did I win, did I win? LOL, I was unable to attend the Romantic Times Convention in Orlando last week :( . It’s funny because I know I was nominated for an award but can’t find out who won it. I’ve googled and googled and asked and no one seems to know :) . I’m thinking if I won, someone would have told me? Right? Right? Well, s’OK. I was just thrilled to be nominated and I think it says a lot for my work.

Oh yeah… almost forgot the biggest news ;) Or maybe I’m just saving the best for last. Guess who just got a brand spankin’ new contract for her short contemporary erotic piece, “Dime”? Well, me of course! Haven’t heard me talk about the story much? Well I’ve put up a bit about it over on… you got it! The Fiction page.

Trying to find me? Well, I will be all over the net promotion Imperfection over the next couple of weeks. Here are some places and dates:

· Monday, March 9, 2009—Romance Junkies live chat at 9:00 PM Eastern.

· Monday, March 16, RELEASE DAY. I will be chatting at 9:00 PM at lyricalpress.yuku.com. I will definitely be giving away a copy of Imperfection then and a few other ridiculous treats!

Contest Announcements! YES! I am giving away a couple of FREE copies of Imperfection on March 16, 2009! One book may be won at my Savannah Chase author chat. Another, and this is where it gets fun, will be won on one of the various loops I’ll be chatting at that day. See you there!

You may have noticed that I have changed the site a bit. For one, I’m discontinuing my Sports Stack for just a bit. I am putting myself on the strictest of writer diets. One of those things I’m not consuming until I have more time on my hands is sports. There are some other things: Gaming (after today), alcohol consumption (wine with dinner doesn’t count), and speed reading romance and fantasy novels.

February 22, 2009

Three weeks now. Imperfection is out in three weeks. I can’t wait. I’m trying to think of a huge, crazy contest for the release, but so far am drawing a blank. Never fear though, in one week, I will have my giant contest ready.

What am I working on? Well... you know I’m always working on a thousand things at once. There’s a new erotic short in my future called Direct Connect. Doesn’t that sound sexy? I know, I know. It doesn’t sound sexy at all, but you know how I roll! LOL. The story is quirky and fun and smart and… well… sexy! :) Can’t wait to see how well I pull it off.

I went to play poker Friday night in a tournament at the local greyhound track. Find out how I did at the Sports Stack.

February 1, 2009

Check it, January was a blur. A complete and utter blur. There was so  much work to be done that I never took a moment to breathe. Maybe that was on purpose. Hm, I donno.

I tried to decide whether I was going to stay home or go out during the Superbowl festivities this weekend… Stop by the Sports Stack to see what decision I made.

Now that I’m done with the majority of the edits for my upcoming works, I’m sort of at loose ends as to what I should work on next. You know? I want to do something edgy next. Yep. Edgy. Maybe you didn’t know this about me ;) but your girl has a very dark side. Ohhh, I stay with romance and I stay with intricate characters, but I do like some darkness mixed in from time to time. Hmm… We’ll see. What do you think?

I think I’m going to redesign this site once and for all. Look for a re-launch mid-March!

One month away from Imperfection, everybody, YAY!

January 8, 2009

Oh happy day! I think I’m done with edits on Imperfection. Let me tell you, people, this was probably the most—absolute most—painful edit process I’ve been through as of yet. But, you know what? That means three things.

· First: I really felt deeply about this story.  Deeply enough to stick with the grueling schedule of completing edits even though it conflicted with everything else going on in my world.

· Second: My editor felt deeply about making sure this story was presented in the cleanest and most thoughtful way.

· Third: This has turned out to be even more fantastic than I thought at first. I know, I know. I say it’s all awesome. But I believe in this story so much and this couple so much I can’t help but be pleased… I am now, sadly, deleting the excerpt that’s been up for ages and replacing it with a new… fresh excerpt. Read it here. Hope you enjoy!

Here is the link for the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Nominees… Guess who’s there. Oh yeah, it’s me, it’s me.  In case you were wondering… yes, I was dancing. It’s not every day a girl gets her first novel nominated for an award for Best Contemporary Erotica.

PIRATES! Man, I don’t know why, but I have become completely fascinated with the issue of real life honest-to-goodness pirates off the coast of Somalia. I mean, I have all of these questions and all of these stories swimming around in my head about it and I can’t seem to get enough information. Now, as you may have guess, this is turning into a modern day pirate novel in my head, but it’s not formulated yet. I’m going to “marinate” on the story and get back to you if something fabulous materializes.

Did you know you can now get my book at the Sony Bookstore? For reals! You can. Here’s the link: http://ebookstore.sony.com/ebook/aubrey-leatherwood/the-people-you-know-the-sex-they-have/

December 13, 2008

I have HUGE news! The People You Know; The Sex They Have has been nominated for the Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award for the Best Contemporary Erotica of 2008! OMG, when I  saw it I was so amazed and so ecstatic. This truly is a happy day! I’m not completely sure how it works, but I believe awards are announced/delivered in April at the Romantic Times Convention held this year in Orlando, Florida.

Some additional good news: I just got another great review for The People You Know; The Sex They Have from Rites of Romance Reviews. The Review is AWESOME and here are some notes from it.

The People You Know, The Sex They Have is an anthology written by Aubrey Leatherwood. The stories introduce you to a myriad of characters with different sexual situations and emotions. These three tales are definitely erotic in nature.

 The Hall Monitor

I loved getting to know Gayle and Eric, a commitment-phobe and an unusually quiet man who knew what he wanted respectively. They represent well the concept of the perfect “odd couple.” I felt they had a strong connection from the minute they first spoke. I would have loved a longer story about these two characters and felt a powerful connection with them.

 The Kiln

I enjoyed this very interesting and erotic story. Tammy and Lucious have a strong bond and I liked the anticipation Leatherwood created as they gravitated toward one another. The emotions they had were unexpected and endearing. Leatherwood did an extremely good job at explaining everything that had to do with the Kiln.

Sahara’s On a Plane to Munich

I liked this story as it had a lot of humor especially towards the end. I enjoyed watching Sahara go from doing what everyone had expected of her to doing what made her happy.

I enjoyed where Leatherwood took her characters. I would recommend this book to those who like erotic stories.

On a different note, I just finished the first round of edits on Imperfection. The more I work on this story, the more I’m enjoying it and the more I seem to be learning about myself and about women in general.

It’s an old adage for writers to write what they know. What I’m finding interesting, is that that plays differently when what you “know” may not be the average experience. Here’s an example. In the story, there is a routine breast exam. Now you may wonder what that has to do with the price of tea in China, but you’ll have to read the book to find out!

Still, the way I described a breast exam somewhat startled a beta reader. It was a female reader who was familiar with breast exams. I am also female and familiar with breast exams. So, when we discussed it, it turns out that they way her doctor conducts the exam and the way my doctors have done so are different. I was astonished, enough so to go do research on breast exams, something I never thought I’d have to do because I had first hand knowledge of them. This book has seriously pushed me in a way that nothing I’ve written before ever has.

On December 18th (the flyer says 8th, but it’s 18th) I’m going to be chatting on the Yahoo Loop Alpha Males and their Authors with Jade Twilight, Savannah Chase, and Grayson Reyes-Cole.

November 18, 2008

New cover time! I have a new cover for my contemporary erotic novel, Imperfection. See it over there beneath my awesome cover of The People You Know; The Sex They Have. I love the new tagline on the cover. It reads Imperfection: A story of perfect love, perfect commitment, and perfect sex. Hope you like it, too.

New color scheme… The grey was a bit dreary, so I’m experimenting with changing the look of the site. Maybe some time this month I’ll be able decide what the heck my final look is going to be!

I am scheduling several chats and events over the next couple of months so I’ll be sure to stop back and let you know where to catch me!

Buy my book! Was that subtle, lol. Seriously! Did you know my ebook is even available from Amazon on your happy Kindle? Check it out here.

November 5, 2008

DUDE! While I haven’t updated the site in a couple of weeks. I have the coolest news to share EVER. I just got reviewed by Romantic Times Magazine for their December 2008 ad and this is what they had to say about The People You Know; The Sex They Have: The stories in this entertaining collection are crisply written, and the author doesn't waste time or words getting to the point. Despite their brevity, these sex-filled tales will make readers care about the characters. Most interestingly, even though there's no dialogue, the communication between the principals is quite clear -- a remarkable feat on the author's part.

Additionally, I would like to report that there is a lovely ad for my anthology in the December 2008 issue of Romantic Times magazine to go with that lovely review.

I’m working on Appetite and getting it done in November as opposed to starting something new for NaNoWrimo. Wish me luck!

October 18, 2008

Imperfection now has a release date, and it’s A LOT sooner than I had anticipated. The novel will be published on March 16, 2009. Set the date folks, it’s too early for any of us to start hyperventilating! Lol. But if you’ll look to your right… there’s a really sexy read waiting for you now!

September 30, 2008

Wow, it’s been awhile! I don’t think I’ve ever stayed away from my adoring fans this long! LOL! I’ve missed you, but here, I have lots of news to share, soooo… lemme get right to it!

Imperfection has been picked up. YAY. YAY. YAY… one more time… YAY. I am so proud of this book and I am so in love with this couple and I feel like thanking the living daylights out of Lyrical Press for contracting the book. I don’t know if it will make it to print or not, but it will be e-Published in 2009 and I am beside myself with joy over it. Candace and JB, I LOVE YOU!!!
