♠ Hey people! Memorial weekend is coming up and I plan to have a libation or two, watch a game or two, laugh at a player or two and relax. I know you’ll miss my posts, but you always have my return to look forward to. (Aub’s a ham). Anyhoo, on to the sports!
♠ OK people. I've heard you loud and clear. I'm willing to address your questions. I will have to do so in text only because I went looking for action footage but suspiciously only found film of him sitting on the bench looking at the scoreboard. Ahem: 1. Yes, Ray Allen only got 4 points in game one of the Boston/Detroit series 2. No, he is not lost either in the Alaskan wilderness or in Australian Outback 3. Ray Allen has not been secretly banned from the playoffs 4. As far as I know Ray Allen has not been the butt of any wagers with past teammates that preclude him from showing up to a game. 5. Finally, no, Ray Allen is not dead.
Ray Allen proved that he was present by having 5 fouls in tonight's game before the end of the 3rd quarter. Was that fell0w a little frustrated... hmm? As my cousin would say, "Oh, you mad now?" lol.
♠ Tonight, the Spurs are going to beat the Lakers. Take it to the bank. They were a little tired game one, but that’s O-V. Mark my words! Kurt Thomas is going to bust this thing wide open (after applying various liniments)
♠ If I haven’t said it before, I love this game!

♠ Look at my mouth! Oh wait, you can’t *see* my mouth. The SPURS beat the HORNETS in GAME 7. They are going to the Western Conference Finals. Please, if you haven’t already, go look at my bracket and bask in it’s glory. I am a damn champion! The SPURS are damn champions. Oh my goodness, I haven’t felt this good since… well never mind! To all you many, many, many haters out there in the wide world of NBA aficionados I told you so! I told you so! I told you so! I’m doing a happy naked dance right now! WOOO HOOO!!! BTW Kurt Thomas was my MVP tonight. What’s he? 60? And look at him getting on the boards and putting the ball back in the first. Let me say it again THE SPURS WON!!!!!

♠ Oh hello, I’m back! It’s been a minute sadly even though there’s been so much to talk about. It’s not my fault though, I’ve been incredibly busy the past few days and I’ve had guests. Luckily, they were guests that appreciate a good basketball game, otherwise there would have been problems.
♠ I just have to throw this out there… Did you see Chauncey Billups hitting a split and injuring himself in a game against the Magic? OMG, I’m sorry folks, I couldn’t help it. I was watching it on youtube over and over. But, I won’t offend you with it… just go check it out for yourself if you want to see it.
♠ In case you’re keeping count. My bracket remains damn near flawless. Tomorrow, when the Spurs win, you may worship me lol.
♠ The WNBA season opened this weekend with Candice Parker making a record-breaking debut. That girl can ball, never let anyone say different.
♠ Tampa Bay Devils Rays. Seriously people, the Rays?

♠ I’ve been off the sauce for a week or so (I’m purifying, people.) But today’s two semi-finals games in the west *require* that I get some libations. I realize it’s Mother’s Day, but I’m child/pet/plant-less and I’ve done my due diligence by sending a gorgeous floral arrangement to my mother and ordering her Wii.
♠ I’m looking for a new PS3 game people. If you didn’t know, I’m a PS3 champion in all areas (except sports games… I just don’t get them). I just finished DMC4, Uncharted, and Heavenly Sword. So, I go to the browser on my network connection and Sony (for some magical reason) won’t let me download the Bourne Conspiracy demo. :( By they way, yes, GTA4 is missing from my list. I have never and will never have a desire to play grand theft auto, even though I like the stylized graphics of Vice City.
♠ You know, it occurs to me that I have not mentioned this year’s NBA MVP. Sorry, Kobe, let me mention it now. Kobe Bryant, you are the MVP and you deserve it. Maybe you didn’t deserve it in those high scoring years where you refused to share the ball, fought incessantly with team mates, had that little trial in Colorado, lost endorsement deals, and got that ridiculous tattoo of your wife… but you deserve it this year! Cheers to you!
♠ I could comment on the Cavaliers win over the Celtics last night, but for what? The Cavaliers were going to win one and the Celtics haven’t won on the road so far. The Celtics will still take this series.
♠ Let’s see Detroit beat Orlando with a last minute (8.9 seconds left in the game actually) shot by Tayshaun Prince. Orlando’s final possession was a tragedy of errors in my opinion and led them to a loss by 1. That series is now 3-1 Detroit, which was to be expected, n’est pas?
♠ OK, seriously, did you hear about the brawl that broke out at the Baltimore Ravens practice? Wow. If you haven’t, here’s a link to an article. What are these guys thinking? I have to confess, though, that I would have loved to have been a fly on the bleachers. These guys are going to kill each other before the season starts.
♠ Have you seen the new WNBA commercials? I don’t like them. They confuse me. The women repeat stereotypes about the WNBA for the majority of the commercial then at the end it flashes up “She wouldn’t say that, would you?”. That’s right, spend the majority of the commercial talking about the negative things people have to say about you, then guilt the people who love you into watching your games. Just like a chick. (yes, I am a chick and I endorse this message!). My point is the commercial itself sort of plays into a stereotype.

♠ Oh the Lakers lost. It was a sad day. But, my spirits are still high, they’ll win.
♠ How do I always end up talking about Danica Patrick? Because she’s always doing something. If you haven’t heard yet, she accidentally hit a crew member from another team. Not exactly her fault. There are strict rules crew members have to follow for their safety, and this guy, from the footage, appeared to have been a little out in the lane. I could be wrong, but if you get a chance to see the footage you’ll see what I mean.
From my understanding, the crew member only suffered lacerations on his face and a concussion. He got his with a racecar! I’m sure he feels lucky to be alive.

♠ Oh yeah, I called it. Don’t hate. The Spurs won.
♠ What can I say about tonight’s Utah/Lakers game… well everyone says that the Lakers winning streak for the playoffs will end tonight because of the extreme home advantage and the fantastic home record of the Jazz. Aubrey says the Jazz is going to lose at home.
♠ Oh LeBron… down 2-0… For shame. Ahem… crank dat soulja boy! (never tell anyone I quoted that song!)
May 8, 2008
♠ The Spurs will be playing New Orleans at home tonight. The game has not started but this is like Bobby Bonilla saying he’s going to knock one out of the park (is he being investigated for steroid abuse? I don’t know). Anyhow, I’m saying the Spurs are going to win and my bracket (despite that Houston/Jazz issue and the Celtics prolonged series) is still golden! Bet on it!

♠ Imagine me doing the Mexican hat dance. OK now stop it! Happy Cinco de Mayo Folks!
♠ I have to tell you all that I was extremely upset when I heard that Eight Belles, the runner up at the Kentucky Derby this weekend, had to be put down because she broke both of her ankles during the race. It really hurt me (and it takes a lot, folks). These are animals not machines. I’m not going to say the jockey was at fault, but I think we all need to take a look at the industry. The horses are frequently hopped on horse crack and are pushed much farther than they should be just based on the pure physics of their bodies. Big animal, little legs! If you’ve ever worn heels that were too high while being just a tad overweight (with a healthy BMI, I’ll have you know!) you know what I’m saying.
♠ Now on to basketball and happier times. Did anyone see the absolute blowout the Celtics had against the Hawks to end that torturous series this weekend? At the end, I was just pushing for them to end more than 40 points up to set a franchise record, but no such luck. Instead, what I got to see was what *has* to be the most flagrant of flagrant fouls so far. Williams on Rondo is what I’m talking about. Good lord, this guy should be ashamed of himself. When you get called for a flagrant and your coach doesn’t even fight for you, you know you’ve done something horrible. That’s a dirty play, I tell you!
♠ The Spurs lost to the Hornets. I’m not mad, though. I am not mad. Chris Paul was a champ, and the Spurs will be back with a vengeance.
May 2, 2008
♠ OK, so I have missed posting over a few days because I’ve been traveling. But, oh my what an interesting couple of days it has been. My Spurs won their series. The Lakers swept the Nuggets… and Mark Cuban fired Avery Johnson. Now, people: you knew it was going to happen. What’s funny is what Avery had to say at the end of the game. Did you see this press conference? No? He was saying that there were people torn up about the loss but he wasn’t one of them. He said that he had been through worse. Spoken like a man who sights a pink slip in his future. Yep, in case you’re wondering, this is the same guy who got coach of the year in 2006 with pretty much the same team he just got fired with.
♠ Hopefully you’ll look back in my posts and muse over the times when I have said that Mark Cuban ought to fire himself. Did you see Jason Kidd get ejected for the first time since 1998? Mark, that’s your fault man… take your medicine.
♠ Now enough of this talk about Dallas! Shouldn’t I be focusing on the real story here? The upcoming round two match up between the Spurs and the Hornets. Sorry Hornets (and cutie pie Chris Paul), here is where we part ways. The Spurs are going to pulverize you. Don’t take it personal, they are the champs and you have to pay your dues.
♠ So who knew that the Celtics and Wizards were going to game 7. No, seriously, who knew? This goes down as the number one series I don’t get.
♠ FYI I have picked all advancers so far except I picked the Rockets over the Jazz. That’s what I get. I figured I had to get rid of at least one of the “favorites”. See where that logic got me!
April 24, 2008:
♠ I have never heard “So goes Orlando, so goes the nation.” Thank goodness. But if you’ll notice, every flipping game three tonight was decided by the home team and the 2-0 underdog (Toronto goes 1-2 with Orlando, Washington goes 1-2 with the Wizards, and the Rockets go 1-2 with the Jazz). This does help with my bracket and all since I predicted no sweeps in those three games, but it makes you wonder.
♠ Don’t get me wrong, the night had its moments, but most of them were off court. There was, of course, Soulja Boy sitting up front in all his glory to watch the Wizards beat the snot out of Cleveland. Soulja Boy was invited, it’s my understanding, because the Wizards felt he was disrespected. I guess on Sunday, Beyoncé will need to break out her Cavs visor. Yeah… you’re right, probably not :) (Oh yeah, Soulja Boy’s appearance at the Wizards game is memorialized on my Silliness page!)
He also did a dance during half-time. The Wizards, and you can’t make this up people, have “arranged” for him to come back on Sunday as a good luck charm.
♠ That game was not worth watching (though I watched it) for a number of reasons. The first of which is the fact that Zydrunas, my good buddy, got a tech in under three minutes of the first quarter. Haywood got one, too although I’m not sure he deserved it. Here’s a pic of the tech. What it doesn’t show is Zydrunas getting pissed and shoving this poor fellow afterward.
♠ Which brings me to another point, I don’t know how one could make this happen, I haven’t thoroughly fleshed this idea out… but what can we do to stop referees from watching previous games before they coach? We all know that refs—even though they try—cannot completely stamp out bias. So, when they see a game that is as physical as game 2 of the Cavs-Wizards series, they make a point to call fouls early and set the tone for the game. While, I personally don’t want anyone to get hurt… I also know that that sort of reffing is really close to being based on your feelings about calls in the last game or who was right and who was wrong. That’s when it starts getting personal. Just Aub’s thought on it.
April 23, 2008
♠ Wow. Detroit made a showing tonight. Whoopty-freakin’-do. It they hadn’t, their stubborn fans may have actually put them down. Rasheed, again, I mean no disrespect to you, you are awesome! Rip and Tayshawn… not so much. Maybe I’m just bitter because I betted on a sweep… Hell yeah, I’m bitter ‘cause I betted on a sweep! Those guys are determined to get on my nerves. FOR REAL. 105-88, Pistons violated the Seventy-Sixers in a way that put the Special Victims Unit on alert.
♠ So my cousin, who is a jackass for those who are interested, chooses to refute all of my comments (nasty propaganda he calls it) about the Pistons and the Lakers by saying that the Portland Trailblazers of the early 2000s should have a reunion. Ruben Patterson, Damon Stoudamire, Bonzi Wells, Zach Randolf, Rasheed Wallace… Need I go on? You know what I say to him, yes hell they should. That was one of my favorite teams to watch back then, and I’d watch them again now. So take that!
♠ Boston beat Atlanta 96 to 77. I stopped watching this game in the second quarter. I know what you’re thinking. A true fan would have stayed. But I have a writing deadline fast approaching! ♠ The Lakers beat the Nuggets. I’m happy about that even with Marcus Camby’s stellar rejection…
♠ So the only series that is tied is the Pistons– 76ers. ALL other favorites are leading by two. I should have went with my instincts on the bracket, I’m telling you. I had Utah to edge out the Rockets… but somehow I forgot that Mutumbo wasn’t Hakeem Olajuwon.
April 22 2008
♠ Grant Hill still plays basketball? That fact astonishes me.
♠ Congratulations to Kevin Garnett for being named the Defensive Player of the year. Congratulations also to the Toronto Raptors - Orlando Magic series for being the *least* interesting series in round 1. I will say, though, that I am amazed that the Raptors bench outscored their starters in the game. I'm not amazed because I don't believe it, I more amazed that the talent on that team is not more definitive. Overall, though, I can't deny it. It was a pretty good game. 104-103, Orlando.
♠ By the way, I feel like *crap* tonight. I can’t sleep, I can’t write, and I can’t work, but I love basketball and watching the games this evening with a glass of wine gave me an awesome moment of peace and normality. That goes to show that sports *are* important to some of us.
♠ The first two minutes in the 3rd quarter of the Suns-Spurs game was beautiful. My boys took it easy in the first half again then exploded in the second half. The Suns seemed to be surprised and unfortunately confused by that turn of events because the third was riddled with stupid turnovers for that team. at 3:07 left in the third and after a six-nothing run, San Antonio was in the lead with all the momentum in the world. Oh yeah, it was just that good. Spurs win it 102-96. Oh that was sweet.
♠ 127-103? When will folks stop underestimating the Hornets? Even with guys like Peja and Bonzi? Well, probably when we stop overestimating their opponents. Here’s some tough talk for you Dallas, you’re not as good as you think you are, and picking up Kidd (I know I’ve mentioned this a number of times) tells me that you will continue to make a muck of the playoffs for years to come.
♠ Oh! And a word about Steve Nash. I’m glad he got a hair cut after joining the Suns, but is it a championship haircut? His chances are better now than when he was at Dallas with the hippy locks, but still… (see my earlier comments about the Suns Spurs game)
♠ My last comment of the night: Mark Cuban, fire yourself.
